Managed hosting and VPS: we move it, we protect it, we run it

What does the one-off fee cover?

RootCR's one-off fee covers everything the move needs: we bring it over, reinstall it cleanly, update it and configure it. It is the only one-off item: no separate installation, activation or data transfer fee, and no surcharge at the end.

Migration and paperwork

RootCR handles the whole switch, from the correspondence with the old provider to going live.

• An assessment before you order, free of charge. We look at the size of the site and the database, what else runs on the current hosting, and how long the move will take. You get this in writing.
• Moving all content. Files, images, database, scheduled jobs, redirects. The files are also scanned for malware during the move.
• Mailboxes. If your email lives on the current hosting, we move the accounts together with the old messages.
• Domain and DNS. We make the changes, including the mail records. If the domain is registered elsewhere, we handle that too, with your authorisation.
• Dealing with the old provider. Requesting the data, the technical correspondence and timing the cancellation are our job.
• A test address. Before going live you can try the new server on a temporary address: ordering, invoicing, outgoing email.
• A way back. We time the cancellation of the old hosting so that it stays in place for two weeks after the switch. If you notice anything, we switch back within an hour.

New server, updates and protection

RootCR does not carry the old environment forward: it hands over a clean, current and protected server.

• A clean, new server. We do not clone the old machine with its faults: we install a fresh operating system and put on it only what the site needs.
• Updates. Web server, database and the PHP or Node.js runtime are set to supported versions that still receive security fixes.
• Protection in place. Firewall, web application firewall, automatic security updates, SSL certificate, and the server connected to our monitoring system.
• Backup routine. We set up daily backups and actually perform a restore before handing the system over.

If the move fails through our fault, we do not charge the fee.

Does everything really move in 1–2 hours?

For a typical website or online store, yes. At RootCR, copying, configuring and checking take 1–2 hours together, for up to a few tens of gigabytes. The old system keeps running the whole time; visitors and customers notice nothing.

Downtime is only a few minutes because we build the new server next to the running one and redirect traffic only at the very end. For an online store we pause order taking for those few minutes, so that the last order moves across too. You choose when to go live: the same day, or the next morning.

What do you have to do?

Nothing that needs expertise: RootCR configures everything. You do not touch a server, look for settings or write to a helpdesk, and nobody has to reconfigure email on their phone. We need three things from you:

1. Access to your current hosting. If you do not have it, an authorisation is enough and we obtain it.
2. A yes, once you have looked at the site on the test address.
3. A time for the switch. If you have no preference, we switch early in the morning.

That is roughly twenty minutes of your time, in two parts.

How do we protect the server?

RootCR fits every server with the protection and monitoring system we built ourselves, the same one that guards our own systems. This is not a boxed security add-on to a hosting plan: from the outside the server barely shows, and from the inside we watch every move it makes, so if something changes we know within a minute.

What does an attacker see of the server?

Almost nothing. A server run by RootCR cannot be addressed directly from the internet: the firewall drops every incoming connection except website traffic, and lets that in only through a protective network (CDN). The real IP address stays hidden. The administrative login is not visible from outside at all; it is reachable only over an encrypted private network, with a key instead of a password. A port scanner finds no open door at the server's address. This is how our own main server works, measured live (24 September 2026).

What does the 24/7 AI-assisted monitoring watch?

RootCR's monitoring system interprets the server's state with a language model and reports in plain language, immediately, when anything departs from normal. Alerts do not pile up on a dashboard; they are on our phone within a minute.

Which other layers of protection are there?

Alongside the monitoring system, these layers also run on RootCR servers:

• A firewall that denies by default: only what the site needs is open.
• A web application firewall (WAF) that filters attack requests before they reach the site.
• Automatic security updates on the operating system.
• Automatic banning: anyone trying to guess their way in gets locked out.
• Protection against denial-of-service attacks on the data centre network and the protective network.
• Daily backups to storage physically separate from the server, inside Europe. Every quarter we actually restore from them, so a broken backup is not discovered on the day you need it.
• A monthly report: how the server ran, the state of the backups, and the date of the last successful test restore.

There is no unbreakable system, and anyone promising one is not telling you what they sell. What we commit to: a small attack surface, fast detection, and backups that are proven to restore. The monitoring system is described in detail on the security and monitoring page.

Which server and how much storage can you choose?

One of three machine sizes, plus as much storage as you ask for, up to 20 TB. RootCR keeps the two apart on purpose. At most companies it is not the machine that runs short but the space: images, documents and backups grow every year, traffic much more slowly. This way more storage never means renting a bigger machine.

The server (VPS)

Every RootCR machine runs on local SSD, with 20 TB of traffic per month included (net prices, 24 September 2026). If you outgrow a machine, we move it one size up with a restart of a few minutes; the data stays where it is.

What are the machines' technical specifications?

RootCR measured the medium machine live (own measurement, 19 September 2026):

At RootCR storage pricing is simple: $3.20 per TB per month, in any size between 100 GB and 20 TB, not just the rows in the table (net prices, 24 September 2026). Storage can be expanded at any time without downtime; above 20 TB we quote individually.

The large storage is network storage, sized for files, images, documents and backups. In our own measurement it writes at 190 MB/s and reads at 211 MB/s (19 September 2026), far faster than an office internet connection. The database does not go there but onto the machine's own SSD, where speed matters.

Do you need a dedicated or GPU server?

We put that together too. If a VPS is not enough, because the database is large, your own application runs on it, you want to train or run AI models, or you process video, RootCR quotes individually for a dedicated server that is entirely yours. With the same protection, monitoring and migration as the VPS.

• Dedicated server with AMD or Intel processors, ECC memory, NVMe SSD and mirrored disks.
• Storage server with many disks, for large amounts of data.
• GPU server with NVIDIA cards: from the RTX 4000 SFF Blackwell to the RTX PRO, with up to 768 GB of memory (provider catalogue, 24 September 2026).

The price depends on the configuration, so we quote individually: tell us what the machine is for, and we tell you which setup fits.

Who do you turn to when something goes wrong?

If your site gets slow today, the hosting company says everything is fine on their side and the website is slow. The developer says the code is fine and the server is slow. You are left with two phone numbers and nobody responsible.

At RootCR there is one address and one person responsible, who looks at the server and the site running on it together. Nobody to point at, and no ticket system in which the problem wanders for days. If the fault is in the site's own code, we tell you, and if you want, we fix it at a price agreed in advance.

We reply within 2–3 hours during business hours. We also read messages in the evening and at weekends; if we cannot react straight away, we get back to you within the first hour of the next business day at the latest. The automated monitoring runs without a break in the meantime. Continuous, round-the-clock human availability can be arranged separately.

What does it cost in total?

At RootCR: the monthly fee for the machine plus the storage, and $99 once. A few typical setups (net prices, 24 September 2026):

One-off fee, for every setup: $99, the migration and full setup. All prices are net.

Included in the monthly fee: the server and the storage, the protection system, security updates, daily backup and restore, 24/7 AI-assisted monitoring, fixing server-side faults, and the monthly report.

Not included: new features, content uploads, fixing faults in the site itself (for example a broken plugin), and the domain fee. We price these in advance.

How much cheaper is large storage when it is kept separate?

At RootCR roughly a twentieth of the price. If a site's images, documents and backups sit on the server's own disk, you pay SSD prices for the space. A Hungarian VPS provider's public price calculator charges HUF 22.2 per GB per month for disk (19 September 2026), so 2 TB costs HUF 44,400 a month there. With us the same 2 TB is $6.40, because this layer runs on separate storage built for files.

Restoring from a backup costs nothing extra either: it is part of the monthly fee.

When do we advise against switching?

RootCR does not recommend switching if your current hosting runs reliably, there is someone to call when something breaks, and the backups are regularly checked with a real restore: then switching has no real benefit. Do not switch just because we are cheaper.

There is one case with nothing to move: an online store on a hosted platform (Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Shoptet). The platform runs it; switching there means changing platform, and we help with that too: custom e-commerce development.

This service is for those whose site is slow, who are left alone when something breaks, who have outgrown their hosting, who want their server genuinely guarded, or whose backups nobody has ever tried to restore.

The assessment is free: you get in writing what we found, how long the move takes, and which machine and storage fit your site. If after the assessment you decide to stay with your current provider, that is fine too.
